Issues: Mostly fossil-fuel based. Not recyclable easily. Alternative: Bio-based plexiglass (limited availability, +50% cost). Verdict: Minimise use. When needed, design for multi-show reuse.

Fabric

Sustainable choice: Recycled polyester fabric (made from PET bottles). Cost: Comparable to conventional. Verdict: Easy sustainable swap. Use freely.

Carpet

Issues: Conventional carpet largely non-recyclable. Alternative: Recyclable carpet tiles (Interface, Milliken brands). Cost: +30-40% premium. Verdict: Worth it for sustainability-focused brands.

LED lighting

Sustainable advantage: 80% less energy than halogen, 25,000+ hours life. Verdict: Standard choice in 2026. No reason to use halogen.

Sustainable design principles

Beyond materials:

1. Modular thinking from day 1

Design booth panels in standard dimensions that reconfigure. A 30 m² booth that can become 20 m² or 50 m² by adding/removing panels.

2. Standard sizes for graphics
